【差が出る】最初の５秒～１０秒の使い方
今回も先週に引き続き2024年4月2日から、DET（Duolingo English Test）に新たに導入された３つの問題形式のうち、２つ目「Fill in the Blanks」について、効果的なスコアアップのコツを解説します。
このFill in the Blanksは、今まで出題されていたRead and Completeの出題形式と似ており、Read and Completeが4つ程度のセンテンスから構成されるパッセージであったのに対し、新形式のFill in the Blanksは1センテンスのみ出題されることを確認しておきましょう。
まずは以前からあるRead and Completeの問題イメージをみてみます。

一方、今回新たに導入されたFill in the Blanksは、次のような問題となっています。

▶【新形式】 Fill in the Blanks 基本情報
１）タイマー開始
▶単語が画面に表示されると同時に、２０秒のカウントが始まります。
２）問題内容
▶空欄にアルファベットを入力し英文を完成させます。
３）出題数と制限時間
▶出題数：６問～９問
▶制限時間：２０秒/問
４）３レベルの単語が使われた
▶Lebel 1: salt, journalist, against
▶Lebel 2: persistent, outweigh, feeble
▶Lebel 3: linger, primate, rectify
5）アメリカ英語のスペルを採用
▶（例）色：colour (英)/color (米)、謝罪する：apologise (英)/ apologize (米)
▶スコアアップのための３つのコツ
単語の意味を類推するためのヒントが１つの英文しかないため、出来る限り5秒から１０秒以内で解答で求められる文章全体の意味を理解する必要があります以下の３つのコツを参考に、効率よく問題を解きましょう。
１）５秒程度でセンテンスの意味を把握
✔ 文の意味を迅速に理解することが正解への最短ルートです。可能であれば２度読みましょう。
２）スペルを確認
✔正解が分かっていても、スペルミスでの減点されるのはもったいないです。必ずスペルを確認しましょう。
３）なんらかの答えを入力
✔空欄で終えるのも、不正解で終えるのもスコアは同じです。それなら何かを記入しましょう！
▶レベル別練習に挑戦
以下の３つのレベルに分類された９つの英文内の□内にアルファベットを入れて、英文を完成させてください。正解と解説はYouTube動画の３分４２秒あたりで確認できます。
1) Please grab a chair and s□□. The meeting is starting soon.

3) The teacher made sure to w□□□ her students about the upcoming difficult exam.
